Diamniadio Project Overview:
Objective: The Diamniadio project aims to alleviate congestion in Dakar and provide Senegal with an eco-city that is durable, intelligent, and connected.
Location: Situated 30 km southwest of Dakar and 15 minutes from Blaise Diagne International Airport.
Urban Development: The city will cover 2,500 hectares and accommodate nearly one million residents. It will feature a mix of institutions, ministries, a digital park, university housing, and green spaces.
Economic Impact: Expected to generate 35,000 direct jobs and 105,000 indirect jobs by 2025.
Funding: Supported by the African Development Bank with a €70.6 million investment.
Technological Integration: The city will feature data centres, training and software development centres, e-commerce facilities, and business incubators.
Sustainability Efforts: Renewable energy, particularly solar power with a 15 MW capacity, will be used. Buildings will be designed for energy efficiency and natural ventilation.
Management: Automation of traffic, energy efficiency, and security will be handled through IT systems.
Project Terra Pura Overview:
Objective: To create a mixed housing and eco-innovation center that supports economic development in a culturally appropriate and sustainable manner.
Employment and Housing: Aims to integrate new employment opportunities with mixed housing needs, creating a self-sustaining community.
Sustainability: Will focus on zero waste systems, recycling all waste streams to enhance self-sustainability.
Sphere Economy: Utilises feedback loops to make informed decisions that consider long-term impacts, reducing risk, waste, and emissions.
Community Engagement: Co-creation with local communities to ensure the project is culturally appropriate and environmentally sustainable.
Economic Resilience: Aims to boost local entrepreneurial capacity and enhance the region’s economic, social, and territorial value.
Sustainable Development: Emphasizes innovation, productivity, and growth linked to sustainable development goals.
Human Development: Focuses on improving lives and creating opportunities for people to develop their skills and access the labour market.
Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD): Leverages local resources, skills, and competencies to drive community change.
